ANCESTORS
NELSON'S ISLAND, BBC2
During the
Battle of the Nile, the French
gunship L'Orient caught fire and exploded - an
explosion that was heard for hundreds of miles.
Using a
specialised ship construction company in Mauritius, a 2.5 metre
model was shipped to England for filming on a greenscreen stage.
Because of tight budget, the ship was build with two sides - one dressed in
French livery, the other with English.
Once all the greenscreen photography
was completed, the model was set in a shallow water tank and blown
apart with sequential black powder charges, fired via a computer
controlled firing box. |
