Winter 2012
The start of the year brings a move into new premises, the transmission of a new project and the UK premiere of an old one.
Redevelopment work at Ealing Studios has seen the Model Unit relocate to new premises on the lot. Perhaps appropriately, given our history, the new workshop had previously been used as a location in the 1967
Doctor Who story The Chase.
Monday 13th February sees the start of a new series of
Aircrash Confidential on the Discovery Channel. Keen to give the show a different texture from the previous season, producer Thomas Viner challenged us to bring a new approach to the effects work
- providing expansive miniature effects sequences within an extremely tight time frame. Taking advantage of the mild winter weather, most of the
'air-to-air' photography was conducted outdoors on the studio roof against real skies, whilst pyrotechnic effects were achieved as a more traditional stage shoot.
February 2012 also saw the first UK screening of
Last Day of the Dinosaurs, also on the Discovery
Channel. Radio Times described it as "verging on astonishing."
